About our Local Heritage Project

Hawthorn Cottage, Bardon Mill circa 1900

With the help of Northmberland National Park and English Heritage a number of us met in March/April 2008 with a view to establishing a local heritage group. This would build upon the earlier work n the spring of 2000 resulting in a series of WEA (Workers' Education Association) meetings and the local Village History CD which can be found at the Bardon Mill and Henshaw History web pages.

The first year's programme was set up and the first meeting held on May 15th 2008. During the first year local residents will be able to determine the objectives of the group in more detail, identify likely projects and undertake these, and setup the next year's programme.

We are very grateful for the advice and help provided, and sponsorship of our initial events, to Northmberland National Park and English Heritage. As a group of local residents in Henshaw and Bardon Mill we are surrounded by, and hence have interest in, a wealth of heritage and history dating back to Roman times and before. This includes buidings, artefacts, industry, mining and railways to name just a few areas.

Our first programme was kick started by Northmberland National Park and English Heritage and commenced in May 2008. This provides us with a rich series of events designed to entertain and enlighten us and takes us through to November 2008.
